The BSc (Hons) Computing with Foundation Year is a hands-on degree programme that encourages students to develop an extensive knowledge of computer programming. You will have the opportunity to develop these skills by designing, building and implementing computer systems, culminating in a major final-year software development project.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?
Through engaging, contemporary and industry-relevant modules that are academically rigorous, stimulating and challenging, you will build specialist transferable skills that facilitate your development as an independent learner, whilst gaining expertise in a range of business functions and topics.
With a strong focus on programming (using Java and Python), the course includes a variety of software development, database, web development and networking units. Students also look at web APIs, JSON, HTML5 and big data analytics.
THE COURSE AIMS TO:
- Develop a range of broadly applicable IT skills such as programming, databases, networking, usability and web technologies
- Build communication, project management, teamwork and presentation skills through group and project work
- Develop extensive knowledge of computer programming. Students have the opportunity to develop these skills by designing, building and implementing computer systems, culminating in a major final-year software development project
- Ensure the course is flexible to meet each student’s career aspirations
- Build a supportive course community with students and staff working in partnership to drive innovation through the course
FOUNDATION YEAR
The Foundation Year aims to provide you with the knowledge and skills to progress and succeed on to your undergraduate course, having developed essential knowledge of computing and employability skills in the process.
Key aims of the Foundation Year:
- Provide knowledge and understanding of key computing subjects to enable you to progress onto the Computing degree programme
- Help you understand and apply computing concepts to real-life organisations
- Embed academic and employability skills, providing you with the confidence you need to progress on your chosen course and begin considering your entry into the labour market
